This embroidery kit combined techniques found on 17th Century Stumpwork Caskets, including Needlelace, Looped Purls and adding gold Couching to create a modern take on Stumpwork/Raised work.

The design is adapted from my Signature Piece created during my embroidery training - my version of a 17th Century Stumpwork casket inspired by A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Which itself was inspired by 17th Century Caskets in the V&A & Met Museum collections.

The kit covers the following stitches with full written instructions: Corded Brussels Needlelace, Stem Stitch, Couching for Gold Passing and Chenille, Raised Chain Band and Looped Purl Cutwork.

The design is worked onto a pale green Dupion silk with hand-dyed Perle threads from Paintbox Threads, Coloured and Silk Wrapped Purls, Cotton Chenille and Gilt Passing Thread.

The kit includes full written instructions, fabric with the printed design, calico, needles, beeswax, perle threads, metal and couching threads as well as a mini velvet board to help with cutting metal threads.

To complete the kit you will also require an 8" embroidery hoop and embroidery scissors.

This Needlelace & Goldwork Kit is suitable for stitchers with some experience of embroidery.
 
The finished kit fits perfectly into an 8" hoop, hoop mounting kits are available.
