I recommend the straight Kai blade Prym scissors to all my students, especially for Goldwork, but perfect general embroidery scissors as well.
 
Very sharp, thin blades excellent at cutting Purls without crushing.
 
The curves scissors are excellent thread snips for those worried about snipping their fabric whn trimming thread ends and also great for Whitework when cutting away fabric.
